My craft skills are pretty limited, but once in a while I get inspired, usually out of necessity. Either I can’t find what I am looking for when I am decorating a space or what I do find is just out of reach with my budget. I recently decided I wanted to lighten and brighten my guest room and add a few coastal touches. I found these high quality pretty prints on Etsy and the price was right at $10 each. Prints can be found here.
Here is my step by step tutorial for creating your very own custom artwork.
Step 1: I purchased two unfinished wood frames at Michael’s, these are inexpensive and can be found at most craft stores.
Step 2: I painted the first coat of each frame with the darker color and then once the first coat was dry I painted a second coat in the lighter color.
Step 3: Once the second coat was dry I lightly sanded the edges so that the wood and darker paint color began to show through.
Step 4: Brush on glaze and wipe off with rag or paper towel. I only wanted a light glazed effect so I wiped most of it off.
Step 4: Once the glaze was applied I added a clear satin varnish to protect and enhance the paint and glaze.
Step 5: Inserted the two prints that I purchased on Etsy and now I have the perfect framed artwork for my guest room.
