Below is a picture of the dining room on move in day. To update the room we changed the chandelier (Ballard Designs), curtain rods (Lowes), door knobs and hinges (Lowes), painted (Valspar Carolina Inn Brass) and added wainscotting below the chair rail.
I wish I could tell you that we installed the wainscotting ourselves but we hired a carpenter. I did paint the room but I know my limitations. I really wanted to give it a try but feeling overwhelmed with so many home projects I just wanted it done! It is also faux, the carpenter just added some trim molding to create the boxes and then it was sprayed (SW Alabaster) to give the wall a nice even finish. I know the wood would look much better but for a room that is only used a few times a year the effect works for me and we saved a ton of money.
I am still on the hunt for a few more white accessories and a large mirror. I would also eventually love to add a crystal chandelier for some real real southern charm, but for now it is finally feeling like a room I can check off my home project list.
We turned our curio into a bar.
Here is a picture of our dining room in Texas. The paint color was darker as well as the wood floors. The area rug really changes color with the different wood flooring in each house.
