My parents will be here in just a few days and I am so happy and relieved that I was able to finish up the guest room just in time for their arrival!
We have been in our home for a little over a year now and this room was one of the last to be painted and ended up at the bottom of the project list. We just shut the door and kind of forgot about it.
This room connects to a bathroom and I tackled both projects at the same time so it took me a little longer than I expected to finish. Let’s just say I am thankful only one room in this house had wallpaper, ugh!
Here is the picture that inspired the colors and theme for the space(s):
I had painted the frame a while ago and I ordered the print from one of my favorite Etsy sellers, Belle Mer Graphics .
To pull this room together and on a tight budget I started by “shopping” the house. Pretty much everything in this space was once in another room. I started out with a coastal theme in mind but when I put it all together it turned into a mixed up mess of styles but with a common color scheme of blues and greens. During the home “shopping” I realized I had quite of bit of turquoise home decor and I think I have a bit of a Home Goods shopping obsession! After I decided which items I wanted to use I was finally able to pick a paint color.
I chose Lowe’s Valspar Signature Willow Wind, it is a soft green color with a hint of blue and I like the contrast against all of the blue accents.
Below is a before pic. The ceiling fan is still there and it will eventually be replaced with a new light fixture. I keep checking the local thrift shops and am hopeful I will find a pretty little chandelier sooner than later. I am really working on learning to take my time with decorating. Having patience instead of rushing into buying things or choosing paint colors that I quickly regret really does pay off in the end, at least that’s what I keep having to tell myself!

I love everything about this! Your blog/website is great! I would love to know how you got this effect on the frame you painted! I an redoing a small house built in the 50′s. Alto we only have sheetroch right now,I am trying to plan my decor. I love anything old! Lol I’ll be watching for ideas!!
Dawn
Hi Dawn, Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for your kind comments. The frame was one of the first things I ever painted and it was kind of an accident mixing a few paint colors and some crackle paint but I really liked how it turned out and it coordinated with the bird print. I did a post that is a bit similar and you can find on my project page.
Very pretty! I noticed you have several unique lampshades in your house. Do you have a favorite place to shop for those?
I find them at Pottery Barn, Hobby Lobby, Tuesday Morning, Home Goods, Target and Kirkland’s. I always end up mixing and matching the bases and shades when I need a change.
Where did you get the wall compass?
It is from Kirkland’s, purchased about a year ago.
