In a rush to decorate our home I have made some seriously bad choices and purchases over the years. I am really trying to learn to live with empty walls and spaces until I find the perfect piece. But, sometimes I just get impatient and settle instead of taking the time to find things we will enjoy having in our home for years to come.
I am a serious bargain shopper, especially when it comes to buying home decor. But, a great sale is not not such a great deal when it turns into regret and you end up like me, with a closet full of “what was I thinking” purchases.
Well, this clock was one of those purchases.
We have a big empty space over our fireplace and finding something that was the right size and style to coordinate with our family room decor has been a challenge. I thought a big clock would be the perfect solution and useful too. After lots of searching I found this one. It wasn’t exactly the style I was looking for but it was on sale and the size was just right. It hung on the wall for months but it just wasn’t working. I wasn’t crazy about the gold color and all of that detail was just too busy. I loved the price but I was definitely regretting this purchase.
So in the closet in went.
Then, one day last week after I had finished painting a few pictures frames I thought, “what the heck”, and I pulled the clock out of the closet and got busy with my paintbrush and can of paint. I honestly did not know how it would turn out and it was quite a bit of work to paint and wax, but I am so happy I decided to go for it! Now the clock is happily out of the closet and hanging back on the wall with a brightened up new look.
I would still like to add a few accessories to finish up the fireplace decorating and I am pretty sure I can find something in that closet of mine.
