Wow, it sure has been a busy month! My mom was here visiting for several weeks and the girls had a ton of end of the school year events that kept us on the go! It was so nice having my mom here to enjoy seeing the girls 8th grade graduation ceremony, get ready for their first school dance, band concert and dance recitals. We also found time for some sightseeing, lunches, shopping and even a little gardening! My mom is a wonderful gardener and she was so sweet to help me out in the yard, thanks to her my yard has never looked better! I always wish my mom lived closer, but I am so grateful for the time we get to spend together.
So, now that the summer break has officially begun and things around here are not quite so hectic, I am finally able to catch up on projects around the house and get back to blogging.
I was really hoping to have a big living room reveal this week, but the decorating is coming along slowly. I am still looking for a few accessories, would like to add some trim to the curtains and am not quite sold on the paint color. I love having color on the walls but have really been torn on keeping the green or painting them an ivory color to brighten the room.
This room is once again a work with what you’ve got approach to decorating. I will be totally honest and say I really wish I could start from scratch sometimes. Our living room furniture was purchased specifically for our home in Texas and my taste has changed a bit over the years. Oh how I dream of white slip covered sofas! This girl could really have some fun furniture shopping here in North Carolina. Well, since there won’t be any furniture shopping in my future anytime soon, I worked with the rug we’ve had for years to pull together a color palette. My goal was to create a coastal inspired living room that reflects my family’s love of the ocean and make the room feel cozy and a little more casual than the living room in our last home.
All of the big items are from our previous home, but I have been collecting most of the decorative accessories in the room over the past few years.
The blue candle holders are from World Market, tray and boxwood from Home Goods, starfish from Pottery Barn and table from a thrift store which you can read all about here.
The ivory pillows and curtains are from Pottery Barn and the blue silk pillows are from Pier One. You can read all about the painted chest here.
The blue frames are from TJ Maxx. All of the glass containers are from either TJ Maxx or Home Goods. They were very inexpensive and perfect for displaying our sea shell and drift wood collections.
I purchased the ocean prints on Etsy which you can find here.
I am finally getting close to being done with the living room, but think a few extra touches will give this room the cozy and casual feeling I am hoping for. I sure would love your advice! What do you think I should add to the room and what do think about the paint color? Keep it green or go neutral? I really appreciate any decorating ideas you send my way!
