So….you may be asking, “Wait, the what!?” Well, let me explain. When we were on vacation in the mountains over the summer it rained, like every day, all day kind of rain. Instead of the outdoor activities we had planned, we ended up staying in, relaxing and enjoying our family time together. One afternoon while my hubby and kids were taking a nap, I decided to sit out back on the deck to enjoy the gorgeous view of the mountains and listen to the rain. I may have also kind of opened up my laptop despite my best efforts to turn off the technology and disconnect. While checking my e-mail I also may have clicked on a few ads with sales too tempting to pass up and in a moment of weakness may have ordered a rug…or two.
Why I was looking at rugs I have no idea, they were honestly the last thing I needed for the house. A few weeks later they arrived and well you know how one thing leads to another. Just when I was beginning to feel like decorating the house was almost finished, I go and move things around. Making any changes in the family room was definitely not planned, it just sort of happened. Before I knew it all of accessories I had in the living room were now in the family room.
I only purchased three things for our mini family room makeover, the rug, a pillow and a small side table, everything else is from shopping the living room. So, now you are probably wondering what the living room looks like and what happened to that whole coastal inspired theme I had going? Well, that room sat pretty empty for a while and has been a work in progress, but it’s now almost done and I can’t wait to share soon! That’s also the other room that ended up with a new rug.
The changes in the family room were simple, quick and done on a small budget, but have a big impact on the look of the room. The family room was very cozy feeling before with the warmer colors, but with a more neutral palette the openness of the kitchen and family room feels brighter and flows better between the two open spaces .
My family really likes the new look of the family room, but I do have to admit they were not loving the seagrass rug so much when it first arrived. I remember hearing words like, rocks, sandpaper, ouch my feet, well you get the idea. The rug really isn’t that rough, just a little hard on the feet at first and it did take some getting used to. I’ll be honest I do miss the coziness and softness of the wool rug, but I love the look of the seagrass. I was nervous when I ordered it, but for the size and price it was too good to pass up so I took a chance and have no regrets.
It took me a while, but I finally had a chance to take and edit some pictures of our little family room makeover. So, are you ready to see the room? Well, come on in!
Here’s the view from the kitchen:
Now I know some may like the after and others may prefer the before. I have to say we really love both and we can easily switch back the rug and accessories whenever we feel like a change. For now we are enjoying the new look, but in a few months who knows…
