Glammed Up For The Holidays Bushel Basket

Last year I had so much fun making over one those cute little baskets that the fall mums come in (click here to see) that I decided to try it again this year.  Except this time I thought it would be fun to glam it up a bit for the holidays.

Glammed Up Bushel Basket

Here’s how the basket started out. These wooden baskets look so pretty filled with mums in the fall, but are also great for craft projects.

For a little texture and to add some weight to the basket I wrapped it with some rope and used my low temp glue gun to attach to the basket.

Then, for a little glam I added a few coats of gold paint. Before applying the paint I did go around the basket and cut off all those stray strands from the rope to neaten it up.

I was so excited when I found this can of paint at Home Depot and it is the most perfect, shiny and bright gold color!  I had tried using spray paint many times recently, but after several failed projects I decided I am not a fan and prefer using a paint brush. With spray paint I always end up making such a mess and my projects never turn out like the one’s I see on Pinterest.   It took some practice working with this paint because it is thin, you will barely need any on the paintbrush. A little of this paint goes a long way so you will have plenty left over for other projects.

Then, to finish it off I tied a bow with some ribbon I already had, securing it with a tiny bit of to the front and back of the basket.

Bushel Basket Holiday Makeover

I found this cute tree at Lowe’s for $7.00 and to cover up the soil and plastic pot I layered in some ornaments that I had on hand.

This project took a few steps, but it was super easy and fun to do and I am loving this glammed up basket makeover!  If you have any of these bushel baskets leftover from the fall I hope you will give this project a try!

  1. Very pretty! This would make a cute gift too. Glad to hear I’m not the only one with less than wonderful spray paint results.

  2. Thanks Geralin! I have tried several brands of spray paint but have not had the same results as others. I have been updating some of my decor with metallics and happy there are other products out there to use so I can still get the look.

  3. This is GORGEOUS!!!! I love what you did with this. I want to do this to our trees next year in our new home. Take a peak at Cloches and Lavender, I would love for you to follow me back. Between decorating where we are staying a building a home much is happening. Thanks

  4. Great gift idea! And I love the colors of the ribbon. What an upgrade to an ordinary basket. :) and thanks for the paint tip. Will have to check that one out.

  5. Lauren…what a great idea…I have seen people used the twine on items, but you took it a few notches higher and created that “glam basket” that is gorgeous!…and so love the ribbon!!!
