Last year I had so much fun making over one those cute little baskets that the fall mums come in (click here to see) that I decided to try it again this year. Except this time I thought it would be fun to glam it up a bit for the holidays.
Here’s how the basket started out. These wooden baskets look so pretty filled with mums in the fall, but are also great for craft projects.
For a little texture and to add some weight to the basket I wrapped it with some rope and used my low temp glue gun to attach to the basket.
Then, for a little glam I added a few coats of gold paint. Before applying the paint I did go around the basket and cut off all those stray strands from the rope to neaten it up.
I was so excited when I found this can of paint at Home Depot and it is the most perfect, shiny and bright gold color! I had tried using spray paint many times recently, but after several failed projects I decided I am not a fan and prefer using a paint brush. With spray paint I always end up making such a mess and my projects never turn out like the one’s I see on Pinterest. It took some practice working with this paint because it is thin, you will barely need any on the paintbrush. A little of this paint goes a long way so you will have plenty left over for other projects.
Then, to finish it off I tied a bow with some ribbon I already had, securing it with a tiny bit of to the front and back of the basket.
I found this cute tree at Lowe’s for $7.00 and to cover up the soil and plastic pot I layered in some ornaments that I had on hand.
This project took a few steps, but it was super easy and fun to do and I am loving this glammed up basket makeover! If you have any of these bushel baskets leftover from the fall I hope you will give this project a try!
