Last week I shared how we decided to remove the exterior door to the porch and replace it with a built in cabinet that is now in between the kitchen and family room. Well, today I am excited to show you what we did with the other side of that door.
Here’s a view of the door before it was removed.
What a difference taking out the bay window and door made to the space.
Here you can see the new doorway that leads to the deck.
I had a hard time visualizing what the built in would end up looking like. Here it is, installed and prepped for painting. The builder did such a great job turning our vision into a reality.
It took me a while to decide what color to have the cabinet painted. I thought about going with a fun color, but I wanted to live with the space for a while and keep things simple. I went with the same color that the other new built in cabinet is painted on the inside of the house.
Here’s a close up of the granite. I’m not sure what it’s called, but we really love it. The colors worked great with the floor tile, stone fireplace and paint colors. We ended up finding a remnant piece that was the perfect size for the counter top.
We are so happy with how the built in cabinet turned out. My hubby is loving his new little fridge and my favorite part is the counter area that will be great for entertaining. I made sure that the distance between the counter top and upper cabinet was high enough for decorating, but mostly for the giant drink dispenser I purchased from Pottery Barn.
Here’s a peek at the space from an evening when we hosted a get together with our neighbors. It was a casual evening with a fall theme of pumpkin flavored desserts and a yummy apple cider sangria.
Well, that’s all for now. I am off to have lunch with a sweet friend and then I have tons of catch up to do after a busy weekend. Have a great week and I will be back again soon with another project to share!
