Recently I have been making some simple and inexpensive changes throughout our home which I will be sharing here over the next few months. I have been on a mission to make the downstairs flow better and to have a more cohesive look and style. I found the best way to achieve this was through the use of color. I came to this conclusion after looking at what I already had and realized I really love green and black. From a can of leftover paint in the garage to decor scattered throughout the house, I had plenty to work with. So, most of the updates were free and consisted of just shuffling things around, my favorite kind of decorating!
Last week I shared the olive green painted dresser in our family room, so today let’s move on to the foyer.
Here’s a photo to show you what the space looked like before making a few quick and easy updates.
Here is what it looks like now.
I started by painting this little wall area the same color as the living room.
Next, I grabbed a pillow from the sofa in the living room and another from the family room to add a pop of color to the bench. Once I share the other updates throughout the house you will see how these pillows help tie everything together.
Then, I grabbed the plant from the kitchen and lamp and pineapple from the living room. I moved the basket that was next to the front door to be closer to the bench for my kids to throw their shoes in when they get home from school. The coat rack is now next to the front door. I also took down the little plate that hung above the mirror and layered it with the key dish.
I also couldn’t resist adding these new knobs to the chest I painted several years ago which match perfectly and were only a few dollars each!
I have been thinking about painting the wall above the stairs where our family gallery wall is the same green color and also painting the banisters black, but I am on the fence about those projects right now so I am going to keep thinking about them for a while. What do you think, should I paint them?
Finally, one of my absolute favorite changes to our foyer was painting the door. That is a project I have been wanting to do for years, but was too nervous to do. I finally decided to go for it and I love it! Our foyer is very tall and always felt so bare and unwelcoming. After painting it black the space now feels so much more inviting and cozy. To read all about the door project and how I painted the border of the rug too you can click here.
I have had most of the decor in our foyer for quite a while, but I often get lots of questions asking where I find things and I always love to share!
