When it comes to decorating, sometimes the most obvious things and ideas can be right in front of me, but for whatever reason can take a while, sometime years to realize and figure out. That happens to me a lot and was definitely the case with our turkey platter.
This tale begins one Spring day when I was cleaning the kitchen and decided to go through each cabinet, rearranging and organizing. When I came to the last cabinet, which was filled with larger serving pieces, mostly reserved for holidays and entertaining, it was quite a mess. So, I decided the best way to tackle this cabinet was to pull everything out and start from scratch. There were bowls and trays of all kinds stacked randomly one on top of the other. The very last thing I took out, on the very bottom holding everything else up was our turkey platter. In that moment, for the first time, I actually took the time to look at it and admire how pretty it was. I had always just thought of the turkey platter as something that we used once a year, maybe twice to display and serve our turkey on. Now, it just didn’t seem right to tuck that poor pretty turkey platter back into the bottom of the cabinet until next Thanksgiving.
That’s when the little light bulb in my head went off. This looks like transferware, I LOVE transferware! So much so that I started a collection and recently created a wall display with it. When I brought the turkey platter over to the dining room, in an instant I saw that the colors worked perfectly with the other decor and colors in the room. Then I stood there asking myself why in the world it took me so long to figure this out. Now I just needed to find a special spot for it and make it work throughout the year, until it’s needed again and back in the Thanksgiving spotlight.
That’s when I remembered the pine cones that used to be on display in the foyer, that were now stashed away in the garage until I found a new home for them. Well, this was it!
Like peanut and jelly, I think pine cones and a turkey platter make a great combination!
I have always had a hard time decorating the buffet, never quite sure what to put in the middle. The turkey platter was a perfect fit and this was just the right spot for it!
Now that the turkey platter is out of hiding, it can be admired all year long!
So, even though our turkey platter’s tale had a sad beginning, like a princess locked away in a castle for years, it happily has a fairy tale ending!
Thanks so much for stopping by today and hope you enjoyed my silly and maybe even a little inspiring turkey platter tale. I will be back again soon with a fun room reveal that ties in with my last post which you can read here. Have a great weekend!
