Don’t you just love those thrift store finds that you can instantly see the potential, to be transformed and repurposed into something new. Well, that is exactly what happened when I spotted a pretty carved wood bookend for a dollar. The moment I saw it I just knew it would make a perfect little wall shelf.
This was such a fun upcycling project and only required the additional purchase of the wood piece that I picked up at a local craft store for a few dollars.
To transform the bookend into a wall shelf I started by attaching the two pieces together with wood glue.
Once the two wood pieces were secured together, I painted the entire piece one color and then after it had dried, I dry brushed on a second layer to add some interest. I didn’t purchase any new paints I just used what I had on hand.
To give the wall shelf a more aged appearance I first applied a clear wax, followed by dark wax to highlight the details.
Finally, to hang the new wall shelf I added a few hooks to the back and that was it!
This dollar thrift store find now has a pretty new look and purpose, as well as a new home. Now that this is project is complete I think I may just need to find some time this week to stop by a few thrift stores in search of another fun thrifty find and project!
Hope your week is off to a great start and as always thank you so much for stopping by today!
