Today I am so excited to share our family room all decked out for the holiday season. I kept the Christmas decorations pretty simple again this year, as well as the color scheme. Some will look familiar from last year’s tour, but I couldn’t resist buying a few new things too! When I first started unpacking all of the decorations I didn’t really start out with a much of a plan or theme, but nature soon became my inspiration for the room.
In keeping with the nature inspired theme and blues and greens found throughout the family room, I decided to replace the prints in the frames above the fireplace with bird prints from my used copy of an Audubon book.
This little nest is a holiday favorite. I added a few others as well.
With the new addition of our matching chairs (found on Craigslist), we didn’t have room this year for a big tree. I was really missing the warm glow of the lights and shiny ornaments that usually fill that corner, so I ended buying a faux pencil tree that helped make the holiday decorating feel complete.
One thing that I bought lots of this year was ribbon. It just seems to make everything a little prettier and more festive for the holidays!
I decided to replace my garland after I found this one on a recent shopping trip. It’s nice and full, less messy and the branches are very soft which I love because it does not scratch up my mantel or staircase banister.
Here’s a close up of a pair of birds nest’s I placed on each end of the garland above the mantel. I tried adding some ornaments to it, but it’ didn’t look quite right. I guess I just prefer to keep things simple, at least for this year.
This painted tray was a recent consignment shop find, I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I also found another spot for a birds nest that I tucked in with the pine branches.
The mini pair of skis on my wreath really don’t go with my theme, but they were just so darn cute and too good a deal to pass up ($3.00 at Target) that I had to find a spot for them in the house.
The wood tray used to hang on the wall, but for now I am enjoying it on the coffee table, it’s been really fun to decorate with.
I hope you enjoyed this stop on my holiday home tour! I am working on a few projects that I will be sharing soon along with the next stop on the tour, the dining room! Thanks so much for taking the time to visit today and wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
