Last month when my friend Shirley of Housepitality Designs told me about a moving sale she was helping her friend Martha with and that her home was filled with antiques, well I just knew I had to go! Shirley has been so sweet keeping an eye out for me as she knows I have been searching for an antique statement piece of furniture for our family room for quite a while. I was able to get a sneak peek of some of the items Martha was selling in a post Shirley shared on her blog. Sadly the furniture included in the sale had either already sold or was not the right size I was looking for. Happily though I drove home with a car full of beautiful treasures!
Each piece of the petite tureen set was in perfect condition and I couldn’t resist the depression glass berry bowls and can’t wait to use them in a table setting. My most favorite treasure though from the sale was the gorgeous wood box that is described on a piece of paper from the previous seller found inside as a “turn of the century walnut machinist box” and a “rare find in this condition”. I had no idea where I was going to put it, but fell instantly in love and knew it had to come home with me!
The flawless five piece Royal Doulton serving set was another treasure at a great price that I just couldn’t resist.
I was on the fence about the candlesticks, but as soon as I got home knew I made the right decision.
Here’s a peek of where a few of the pieces ended up.
I am not sure yet what to put in the walnut box, but I am thinking it would be a great place to store some of my table linens and napkin rings. The copper bucket was a find at the Liberty Antiques Festival which is coming up next week and I am really looking forward to going to again with my Mom! Last Spring we spent hours there and had the best time together!
Before finding these candlesticks I had some small vintage brass ones on the table, but the scale and look of these is so much better!
Another blogging friend, Kirby of Brandywine Cottage also made it over to the sale and purchased a beautiful antique desk that fit perfectly in a spot in her home that you just have to see! (Click Here)
You also have to see the absolutely stunning antique baker’s rack that Shirley took home from the sale! (Click Here)
I have to admit that as I was on my way driving to the moving sale I was telling myself that I really didn’t need anything else for the house. Then as soon as I got home I realized that these were just the finishing touches that my dining room had been missing. It’s those unexpected treasures that help to make a house a home and a room feel complete!
As wonderful as the moving sale was, it was also such a treat to get to see Shirley and to meet her very sweet friend Martha and her husband. Martha, who is also an expert in antique linens, was so kind in helping me to determine the age and how to care for a vintage quilt that I bought years ago.
Wishing you a fabulous weekend! I have been working out in the yard non stop for days and will be out there again this weekend weeding, planting and mulching, but thankfully it’s almost done!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!
