With each changing season and holiday, I can’t help but realize how quickly time is passing by this year and how each will be the last while our girls are still living at home with us. With college applications sent and the excitement of a few acceptance letters already received, the reality that they will soon be leaving for college is quickly setting in. I truly can’t believe how fast this school year is already flying by. I guess that’s why I was craving keeping things a bit simpler this Thanksgiving.
As much I enjoy fussing over all those pretty details that help make a table look and feel extra special, I decided to skip the place cards, formal place settings and much of the fall decor to help keeps things simple.
I always try to use what I have around the house when I put a tablecape together and luckily I only had to purchase a few things for this one. This year I also wanted a tablescape that could be quickly put together so I would have more time to spend with our girls and family that will be joining us for Thanksgiving.
The first purchase were a few more green chargers so they would all match this year.
The other was a new set of napkins because I didn’t have any that tied in with the yellow and green color scheme. I really like the stripe detail on these.
I wasn’t sure at first what to use for the centerpiece, but after setting the table, my new transferware bowl and pitcher instantly helped to tie everything together.
I couldn’t resist using the berry bowls that I recently picked up at a moving sale and I thought they would be perfect for serving a batch of pumpkin spice pecans that we can enjoy nibbling on before dinner.
With warm weather in the forecast, we are planning to serve dessert on the back porch. In keeping with my goal for simple, I will be using fall themed paper plates and napkins for a quick clean up.
Even though I kept things a little simpler at the Thanksgiving table this year, I imagine next years will be the complete opposite as I will anxiously be awaiting our girl’s arrival home from college. As much as I know I am going to miss them, I am already excited just thinking about how to make each holiday and time together extra special.
I want to thank you so much for visiting today and wishing you and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving!
